The word ‘axis’ in architecture refers to an imaginary line that connects the center of a building or space to the edges. This line can be thought of as a way to bring harmony to a space, as it provides a sense of balance and proportion. In many cases, the axis is used to help define the layout of a space, and can be used to create a focal point within a room. Therefore, symmetry gives a mirror image of a structure or object along its central line. The Axis is the most common organising principle among all architecture principles. It is an imaginary line that is used to arrange a group of elements in the design.
Anyway, you still deserve to know how to create a bilateral design, and I’ll do my best to show you how to create a good one, at that. This idea becomes far more obviously absurd when you realize that words aren’t symmetrical, so no design can ever be symmetrical. Try including some simple shapes and rules into your designs to accentuate the layers in your design. As with the other systems, non-objective elements can add visual intrigue, emphasis, or balance. Basically, they look like the cross section earth–with layers of sediment and stone.

The biggest challenge I see in this industry is maintaining the quality of the space and reducing negative environmental impacts of construction while trying to keep costs low. It is important to me to learn new ways to create high quality designs and be environmentally conscious in a way that is manageable for a client.
